CRSD school board members recognized the Cossatot River Elementary Chess Team as the most recent Cossatot River Pride award recipients. This is the first year CRSD has had an elementary team, but our students have had a lot of success in tournaments. Chess tournaments consist of 60 or more students from multiple schools competing against one another. During these tournaments, most of our students placed in the top 10. In fact, Wyatt Roper placed first at the Caddo Hills Invitational, while Kaitlyn Dosch, Jase Richardson, and Paxton Boyd all placed third. Additionally, Brody Ward tied for 2nd place at the DMESC tournament. Chess teaches strategy, concentration, patience, and executive functioning. It requires students to think about two or three moves in advance. Most of our students have never played chess prior to this school year which shows their persistence and perseverance. Although our CRES Chess team has performed incredibly well during tournaments, their sportsmanship and behavior deserve the true spotlight. Whether they win or lose, they're quick to shake hands and offer a "good luck/good game" to their opponents. These students represent themselves, their parents, teachers, and CRSD in a way that showcases Cossatot River Pride. Our 3rd/4th grade team: Xander Broyles Kaitlyn Dosch Jase Richardson Wyatt Roper Rafael Salgado Brody Ward Our 5th/6th grade team: Adelyn Barton Paxton Boyd Joseph Dosch Kason Parmer Alex Sherrouse Falynn Ward The coach is Bethany Brantley. Our team is looking forward to upcoming tournaments in March and April.

Bobby Manning's bus route that runs east of Cove will not run today due to high water on his route. The bus was not able to proceed through areas that have flooded. Students who miss because of his route cancellation today will be excused. Other buses may be late as they navigate carefully through other areas that may be affected. Thank you for your understanding.

Reminder! We need all sign-up forms for JR high football by this Thursday, February 9. This is for current 6th - 8th graders for next year's JR high team at CRHS. We will need a count by Thursday to order uniforms. If we do not receive a minimum number of forms, we will look at an offseason next year and try again to field a team the following year. Our numbers are looking good, but we want to issue a final reminder to get all the forms we can to make an order. You can submit forms to the office or you can email Coach Barrett at dakota.barrett@cossatot.us. Our volleyball coach, Preston Pope, will be on staff this summer. Our current athletic staff are in the process of making supplies orders for volleyball next year. Click the link below to access the Jr. high football sign-up form or contact your school office if you need a paper copy sent home. JR High Football Sign Up Form https://bit.ly/3XzXimt

Finnley Martin is a first grade student at Cossatot River Primary School. He was chosen to represent his class as the Character Student for the word Respect and was selected as the school-wide Star Student for the month of January. Finnley is very sweet and always willing to help others. At home, he loves to jump on his brother's trampoline. His favorite color is red and his favorite subject in school is math. When he grows up he wants to be an astronaut.
